But why would he? He’s grown up around Silas and he loves the guy/bat. Hint 3: Something huge was flying through the air [ ] something bigger and darker than the biggest bird. Something man-size that flickered and fluttered as it moved, like the strobing flight of a bat. () OK, so maybe Silas isn’t a vampire, maybe he’s just Batman.
  2. Kilrajas says:
Silas is a patient guardian throughout the story, and bears through Bod’s intrusive nature. He is also responsible even when he leaves. He makes sure to have Miss Lupescu take care of Bod when he leaves. Silas also helps Bod when he eventually is allowed to go to the school of the living with good advice and warnings.
  3. Daijind says:
In The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, Silas is the "guardian" of Bod, a young boy who lives in a graveyard. Silas protects and educates Bod and also brings him food. In chapter 3, Silas explains.
  4. Shalabar says:
He called out Silas hoping to make his guardian come to them to join the dance to have the fun they were having, but when he heard his name. Silas stepped back into the shadows and was lost to sight last dance. someone called and the music scrolled up into something stately and slow, and each of the dancers took a partner.
  5. Diran says:
I would just like to point out that that is why Silas took in the boy as, essentially, his son. Silas knew what the death of a family could do to a person, and wanted Bod to grow up as a peaceful person, not the murderer Silas once was. – Jinx Vastneradea May 17 '14 at
  6. Meztibei says:
It gets dark by four o’clock – early even for winter. Bod starts looking for the dead people he usually hangs out with but none of them are around. He starts to get scared. He goes to wait for Silas, but Silas never comes. When Bod walks to the main graveyard gates, he hears some music that’s nothing like any music he’s ever heard before.
